American Romance

John MacDonald

by John MacDonald

Cupid was working too many hours and getting nowhere,
so he gave up his quiver and bow for an automatic rifle.
It’s pretty cool. It’s got a scope.

Now his tiny wings flap with vain exuberance
as he shoots into open crowds from the rooftops,
rampaging through malls and grocery stores.

Everybody’s fallin’ in love!

John MacDonald has been writing poems, stories and plays since childhood, but a long detour as a musician kept him from concentrating on writing seriously for over 30 years. Now tone deaf and jaded, he performs his often provocative and absurd poetry around the Washington, DC area with mixed results.
