Eyes On: Eckleburg Interviews

Eyes On Interviews introduce the writers and artists behind the work published in Eckleburg, a literary and arts journal based in Murray Hill, New York City. In each Eyes On interview, a contributor talks about their most recently published work, the works essential to their development, the books they would hand a reader, the habits that keep them creating, and what they are working on now.

What Are ‘Eyes On’ Interviews?

Eyes On is Eckleburg‘s contributor series. The name comes from the journal’s namesake, “the watchful eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg” in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. Where the billboard in the novel looks out over the valley of ashes, Eyes On looks closely at the people making new fiction, poetry, essays, art and music today.

Who We Interview

Eyes On interviews feature Eckleburg contributors across every form we publish: fiction, flash fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, visual art and music. Our contributors include emerging voices publishing for the first time alongside award-winning authors and artists. Eckleburg has published work by writers including Roxane Gay, Rick Moody, Cris Mazza, Steve Almond, Stephen Dixon, Moira Egan and David Wagoner.

Interviews are by invitation.

A Tradition of Eckleburg Interviews Since 2010

Eckleburg has been talking with its contributors since the journal’s first year. Our interview archive reaches back to 2010, with conversations including Richard Kostelanetz, Molly Gaudry and Ian Watson, and it now holds about 100 interviews. Eyes On continues that tradition.
