The Many Burials of Evergreen Cemetery

The first lonely headstone to the last—
black hats and black suits and black make-up
on blue handkerchiefs.

And one winter, the town covered
from pub to buried bus stop,
only the tops of the snow-laced headstones showed

and a single crow flit between them
like the neighbor’s child at a white picket fence.
