For The Love of A Fictional Character

Shontay Luna

Heart beats like a butterfly,
whimsical and delicate.
Dancing at his touch.

The words, though replayed, always excite.
Adding fever to my intentions.
Heart beats like a butterfly.

How sadly Life pales compared to Fantasy.
Knowing it could never be considered equal.
Heart beats like a butterfly.

The illusions quickly grow on their own.
Developing wildly in size.
Heat beats like a butterfly.

Taking hold of every random thought.
Between states of alertness and slumber.
Dancing at your touch.

Until he and I are one.
Never to be separated again.
Heart beats like a butterfly,
dancing at his touch.

Part 2

I may not know what love is.
But I know the things I’m feeling.
I think of him and I’m happy. The
memories, though conjured,
are real. Having happened,
through my alternate mental
universe oh so many times.
They can tell me I’m batshit crazy.
That I belong in the highest wing
of the asylum. They could even
condemn me for choosing fantasy
over reality. But one thing they
CAN’T do is deny what I feel for
him. How can I love a fictional character
isn’t the question. The question is
how can I NOT?
